Tau Volantis isn't the Marker Homeworld, it was native aliens that discovered it. When their bodies were sucked up during the Convergence, it formed a Brethren Moon. But they stopped it with the device, freezing the planet.

With that being said, if the machine turns on and thaws the planet, Convergence will continue the spread of necromorphs will plague entire worlds. Isaac was about to get a move on, but Danik and his men finally caught up with him. Fortunately, they managed to escape from their grasp.
