Dear Esther is often credited as being the grandfather game of all walking simulators. Games like The Stanley Parable, What Remains of Edith Finch, The Beginner's Guide and Firewatch all owe some semblance of gratitude to this game for walking, very slowly, so they could walk... slightly faster.
Out of sheer curiosity I decided to dive into the daddy of walking simulators fist first and came out the other side confused and disappointed, only made worse by looking into the game more and then made doubly worse by listening to the developers commentary included in the Landmark Edition.
I do not hate this game, but I do quite dislike the extraordinary levels of pretentious snobbery coming off the developers commentary. If you finish this video and somehow are still curious about playing the game for yourself, go for it, I've linked the Steam page below and as I'm posting this its on sale for a buck fiddy, good luck and thanks for watching.
