Doom (1993) & The Legacy of a Classic
34With the boomer shooter revival in full swing with games like Dusk, Prodeus, Ultrakill, Forgive Me Father and about 100 others I'll type out below for the sake of SEO, I got the itch to go back in time to before MY time and play the original Doom.
Doom is a franchise as storied and well known as it comes, so approaching such a famous game's origin as someone whose existence is predated by that very game can be a bit of a challenge. That being said, this game kicks as much ass today as it did back in 1993 when it came out. This is a video essay of sorts but also a modern review of an alltime classic.
I do make brief mention of Joe Lieberman and the US Senate's hearing on violence in video games from 1993, and the footage that you see is from CSPAN's archives (thank you Tac).
