PREMISE:
Witness firsthand the journey of a man on a mysterious island as he attempts to uncover the truth about both himself and the strange place he inhabits.
PRESENTATION:
Consider this a "film" rather than a typical video game walkthrough. Dear Esther is a very slow, relaxing, even poetic experience with wonderful sights and sounds galore. At over 45 minutes in length, I would suggest watching this on your television, in your living room if possible. If not, and if your office chair is comfy enough to suffice, consider preparing a nice, warm meal to accompany the flick. Dinner and a movie, you might call it. For the best possible viewing experience, I recorded the walkthrough using a gamepad so that the movements would be smooth and cinematic. I also recorded the video at 720p so that the game's already stunning set pieces are made even more impressive in high definition. Please, take your time and enjoy watching. Your patience might very well pay off.
GAME:
Known more for its mood, atmosphere, and story-telling than gameplay, Dear Esther is an experimental first-person game created by thechineseroom, a British indie developer. Although it gained a cult following as a free mod for Half-Life 2, the retail, stand-alone version of Dear Esther provides a more polished experience and some of the best visuals ever produced by the Source engine. It is available through most digital retailers, including Steam.
