Death end re;Quest 2 - PC Review
A review of Death end re;Quest 2 for the PC (Also available on Switch and PS4) the sequel to the first game and one which I'm not sure was genuinely needed.
The game had a fair amount of potential and it actually really good at the start and does improve on being a bit more serious about the 'horror' aspect of the game which the first promised but kind of fumbled. However the story looses its steam and starts to become a bit of a mess rather quickly and in the end just feels like a massive waste of anything good that it had or could of been.
The PC port is also perhaps one of the worst ports I've ever dealt with. There's various issues with the game such as FPS being a random mess to the fact that steam 'claims' on the store page that this game is verified and that it works on the Steam Deck. Yet it doesn't because once the 3D sections begin the FPS go all over the place and the game begins to lag like crazy and worst of all it pushes the Decks fan to extremes.
There is a slight fix for Deck users and that it to select the game from your library, click on properties, select launch options and copy this command in :
WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=2:0,1 %command%
This SHOULD fix the FPS going crazy within the game however it also causes the camera to spin 360 constantly and it will only stop if you press the attack button and even then its random on if that will work or not.
I genuinely wanted to enjoy this game but much like the first game it seems to have loads of chances which it just falls flat on each and every time. I feel if the game had perhaps been given 1 more year to be worked on that this could have been a really fantastic experience and one which perhaps might have rivaled games such as Labyrinth of Refrain.
