The adventure begins for the player when video game developer Arata Mizunashi receives an email from Shina Ninomiya. Shina disappeared over a year ago. Together, they worked on World's Odyssey (WOD), an immersive virtual landscape built on the latest technology. When Shina suddenly disappears, no one can explain what happened. When Arata realises that Shina is trapped in WOD, he realizes that the game has now been infected by a series of bugs and Shina seems to be the only active player. A mysterious power keeps Shina from leaving the virtual world until she finishes the game.
