There is no such thing as controlling your emotions. A dam doesn't control water, it just lets it flow. Love is as such: if let to flow, it will regulate some processes, will balance some and will make you feel more pleasant. A dam lets water flow through unhindered so that it can turn it naturally into energy to use, just like one allows love to flow through them so that they naturally become more pleasant. Exactly like that emotions can pass through you without any sediments. Just don't attribute them any judgement, and if they flow unhindered, your mind will be much more free.
