There are so many who believe that when they're invaded that they are for sure dead, before ever trying to even fight. The perception that invaders ruin the game is so overblown in comparison to how frequently you are invaded and how many more times the pve will kill you by. Realistically if you're playing solo and make no effort to increasing your odds of being invaded you'll be invaded 1-8 times per playthrough at best, 5-20 times if you're summoning often enough. Which you can make 0 by playing offline or staying in soul/hollow form.

The assumption most have where they'll die because they've been invaded might as well just be a self fulfilling one. Right from the start they doubt themselves and refuse to fight anywhere they deem not safe, read anywhere that isn't the archstone/bonfire. They care more about the few pitiful amount of souls they got in going through the level up to that point, which likely wouldn't have leveled them up anyways and are easily replaced, than they do in keeping their progress. This is hardly the first time I've chased someone who was 1-2 corners away from the boss fog wall ALL THE WAY BACK to the archstone/bonfire at the start of the level. Even before I kill them they've chosen to make negative progress.
