Tinka Barnes, MD is a board-certified family medicine physician practicing in North Carolina. Currently she works at Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medicine Clinic working with a predominately at risk population. She is the founder of the vegan workshop and seminars company, Veginar PLLC.
She focuses on helping individuals transition from an unhealthy diet and lifestyle to a more whole food plant-based diet incorporating and using the bodies own healing processes. βMovement is medicineβ is an often used slogan she recites to help inspire individuals to incorporate physical fitness as much as possible into their lifestyles.
She has been vegan for over six years and plant-based food conscious for over twenty. She completed her medical degree at University of Kansas Medical School and Residency at LSU in Kenner LA and University of Kansas. She is married to a multi award winning author Derrick Barnes and they met over 24 years ago at the illustrious HBCU, Jackson State University in Jackson MS. She is the mother of four sons (20, 16, 14, and 9) and a professional performer of West African dance as well as other dances from the diaspora.
