Developers are worried about the impact of Monetisation - Overwatch 2
In the last few years, many game developers, including Overwatch 2, have switched to a live service model, which has not been the most effortless transition. To a certain extent, developers trying to convince their players to spend money is acceptable. Making games is expensive, and running a live-service game is even more expensive. Nothing in life is free.
The problem is that some developers got too greedy, to the point where some cosmetics are just as expensive as an AAA game or maybe even double as expensive. And when one developer gets away with it, the rest just follow—to the point where it becomes ridiculous and items become so expensive that players feel like they are being scammed. The trust is gone, and you lose players.
And that’s apparently something developers are actually worried about. Let's have a look.
