Developing IoT Edge
Lately, many IoT use cases evolve toward the Edge architectures. We'll start the session by exploring these use cases and accommodating architectures, trying to summarize all pros and cons of adopting them.
Eclipse IoT and Edge communities already provide many projects that are well established and solve many problems in their respectable domains. But there is an opportunity for more integration that would provide a better off-the-shelf IoT Edge experience.
In this particular session we will see how Eclipse Hono and ioFog projects aim to provide an IoT Edge platform. Eclipse Hono started as an IoT cloud gateway, providing the means to connect a large number of IoT devices and gateways to the cloud and connecting them to the backend applications. We'll see how Hono is evolving toward the IoT Edge gateway, enabling devices and applications to connect in uniform fashion both on the cloud and edge nodes.
On the other side, ioFog provides a general framework for running microservices on the Edge. We'll see how the ioFog communication layer evolved and how Hono connectivity can be enabled to support IoT use cases. But, we'll also explore deeper integration in an effort to provide a new generation of IoT field gateways based on these projects. We'll cover the current progress and path that is the front of us.
