Key art is the first visual representation of a game that most players will encounter in multiple contexts and places. In this talk we will discuss the process and challenges of creating long-lasting and cohesive key art for games. Creating an iconic image that communicates the essence of your game can captivate the interest of an audience and encapsulate the player experience into an image that stands out amongst many other titles in the marketplace. In developing the visual design and signature elements, we’ll examine how collaboration and consistency can be developed across in-game UI/UX along marketing and brand development. We’ll also go in depth into how you craft key art as a consistent, scalable toolset, built to carry a franchise over many years.
Video game cover art, or key art, has many examples of iconic images that stand alongside famous record, book or movie covers. The contents of this talk deep-dives into the creation of key art for game franchises such as Star Wars: Battlefront and Battlefield, with process examples of creative thinking and visual development.
