I found the E3 Prototype demo for Devil KINGS (known as Sengoku BASARA) in Japan and decided to give it a playthrough, to see if there were any differences to either release version of the game. You can only play as Devil King (Nobunaga Oda), and you go up against Red Minotaur (Shingen Takeda).

This entire demo is based on the River Styx (Yamazaki) stage from the full release, though instead of Reaper (Mitsuhide Akechi) being the main villain, you're fighting Red Minotaur. Also, curiously, Azure Dragon (Masamune Date) is a commander on Red Minotaur's side, rather than Scorpio (Yukimura Sanada) or Talon (Sasuke Sarutobi), two characters who are ACTUALLY part of Red Minotaur's forces.

The HUD is different, closer resembling the original Sengoku BASARA HUD rather than the Devil KINGS one. While the movesets are set up similarly to Devil KINGS, Prime attacks do not exist yet in this demo.

Some of Red Minotaur's dialogue is actually just Reaper's, though with random Red Minotaur Japanese voices thrown over it. This is especially notable in that you hear him say the name "Yukimura" at least twice in this demo, though he never actually mentions him in the subtitles. He also says the "So this is the color of my blood" line, which is something Reaper actually says in the released game.

Initially, I thought that the dramatically different landscape was unique to this demo, but I was mistaken. This is just how the River Styx stage looks in the western release, not resembling this at all in the original Japanese version.

The last interesting tidbit is that both Lady Butterfly (Nou) and Hornet (Ranmaru Mori) appear via dialogue in this stage, but they're both named "Commander".
