To this day, Devil may cry 3 is one of the greatest comeback stories in gaming history. Not only did it fix the colossal missteps of its predecessor, but it also introduced plenty of new ideas that pushed the series forwards. With the most notable being the multitude of different combat styles, on-the-fly weapon switching, and the full realization of jump cancelling. All of these mechanics were wrapped up in the reworked combat ranking system that encouraged players to always be pushing their skills to their limits. Devil may cry 3 proved that the series was more than just a one-hit-wonder and is what I consider to be one of the greatest action games on the PlayStation 2. Because of DMC 3’s massive success, fans had high expectations for the next game. Not just because they were clamouring for more of what the last game provided, but because this would mark Devil May Cry’s debut on the 7th generation of consoles, which was a huge deal. Of course, this meant that we would see a bump in graphical quality, but the new hardware would allow the developers to do things that weren’t possible back on the ps2 gameplay-wise. The excitement surrounding DMC 4 was through the roof and in early 2008 we finally got our hands on it.
