DFFOO GL (Across the Skies CHAOS: Challenge Quest) Vaan LD, Gabranth, Lenna
Leviathan summon,
Note: All 3 characters are EX+3LB with their bloom passives. Vaan has his WoI and LD passive. Gabranth and Lenna have their spheres equipped. Vaan and Gabranth have their enhancement boards
Wave 1: Hollow Rider x3 (completed on turn 31)
- One of the Hollow Riders will set an aura - Will of Destruction that will reduce your party's max HP and this effect will be brought over for the rest of the CHAOS. This is one of the main reasons why this CHAOS is difficult. With a reduced max HP base, you need to be careful about taking breaks otherwise you will get KO accidentally. You can delay the effect but I don't think it is worthwhile since it is better to save the delay skills for the boss on the next battlefield.
- One of the Hollow Riders will do a BRV Gain HP, AOE BRV+HP (Clinging Nightmare). It doesn't deal a lot of damage versus a full max HP base. But it will be dangerous against a reduced HP base. Avoid breaks is essential to minimize the damage. Lenna's HP regen should help a bit for this.
- The Rider has an aura - Ruin of Rule that triggers at 3 HP threshold - 80%, 50%, and 30%. Once it is activated, it will be harder to inflict debuffs on them. Units that rely on debuffs will be hampered in this wave.
- They have 3 single target HP attacks - Hard Lance (HP), Drain (BRV Gain, Drain HP), and Absolute Pain (BRV+HP). Absolute Pain is used after the final HP threshold is triggered, so watch for this. They can use Stingheart (BRV, Max HP) to further reduce your characters' HP (that last 3T). This will be avoided as long as Lenna's Wind Drake buff is up.
Using the above team, I have Vaan nuke one of them first so it is easier to manage against 2 instead of 3. Vaan can use Red Spiral to end his turn. Conserves buff skills (Gabranth's S1 and Lenna S2) and save it for the boss fight. Vaan has 3 abilities left when the battle ends with no uses of his LD. Vaan's Blind debuff from his S2 helps a lot for the fight.
Wave 2: Avenger x2 (completed on turn 87)
- The 2 Avengers are a thorn in the flesh and have mechanics that counter the bulk of the synergy characters' mechanics. Like other CHAOS bosses, they gain aura at 80% and 50% HP thresholds.
a) Ardor: Single magic BRV, inflict Steady Shot debuff (guaranteed, bypass debuff immunity). When the character with Steady Shot acts, both Avengers will use Counter Lunge+. This is a troublesome mechanic as you want to minimize breaks so your team's turn order won't be messed up.
b) Shockwave Pulsar - Group magic delays target by 1T if they are broken.
c) Lunge - BRV attack, inflict Max BRV Down
d) Rage (Recast) - Removes non-framed debuffs from itself, Group BRV+HP. Gains Mark of Nemesis buff upon breaking or attacking the target. (If you have Balthier, steal this buff and it will prevent the counters ) Removes all buffs from the enemies. Only field buffs and permanent buff (e.g. Leviathan BRV regen) won't be removed. If you get broken, be prepared for heavy damage.
e) Dark Break - dark magic BRV+HP, melee BRV+HP. Uses after the 50% HP threshold is triggered.
The boss has a normal recast gauge i.e. 4-5 actions to a full recast gauge. It will be faster if you break your party. It will start off Lunge, Ardor, Shockwave Pulsar, BRV before using its recast ability. The Counter Lunge doesn't add to its recast gauge. When it has sufficient BRV, It can deal with an HP attack (Downward Strike).
The key strategy is to nuke one down while managing the other. That is the reason why Vaan is synergy for this. They don't enrage when one of them dies first. Handling one Rage and 1 Counter Lunge+ is definitely better than 2. Keep their Rage attacks close to each other, so you don't waste buff abilities (i.e. activate your buffs after one Rage and got dispel instantly on the next turns by the next Rage)
The ideal time to use Vaan's LD is once after the boss uses Rage and both of his skills are down to 1 ability left. Have Vaan uses Red Spiral/ EX if he is targeted. After using his LD, he gets 3 free skill uses. You will want to maximize the use of them. So spam White Whorl+ they are dead. His EX has a BRV refund mechanic and grants his framed debuff, which helps a lot.
Lenna is the support member for the fight with her battery and healing. After Rage, you have to look into circumstances whether to use her Wind Drake Arrow (for getting back the buffs) or EX (for burst healing). Her Rapid Fire offers decent BRV shaving and Int BRV debuff helps to minimize BRV gains for most of the bosses' attacks.
Gabranth can use his S1 to refresh his buff and upgrade his framed debuff as it adds ATK and DEF (non-framed debuffs) (for improved poison debuff, which will help a lot). S1 also has AOE BRV shaving. When there are 4 debuffs on the target, he can do rebreak with his S2 or EX. Rebreak to get in ideal turn order is important. If your party's HP is below 50% after Rage, have Gabranth use his AA (make sure you have bloomed it so you have 2 uses).
