DFFOO [JP][Aranea IW] Aranea FR effect is practically a BT w/ Caius, Selphie and Tifa fd
22An active use for Aranea FR. Still mops the floor from 90% to 0 using launches without any sort of off-turn dmg and passive off-turn % gains. It is pretty insane just as expected.

Force Mechanics:

Until they take critical BRV dmg, bosses would have 999% BRV/HP dmg reduction. This would also activate a red aura around the boss until dispelled.
If the same effect takes place when the red aura is up, they would use "refreshing healing", cleansing all forms of debuffs off of themselves and recover HP.
FA: Spit Dispersal (?)++ (only AOE BRV attack)
If this attack break or touched a broken target, it dispels all forms of buffs off of your characters.
FT: 4 turns
9999% HP dmg reduction outside of FA
Weakness: (cancel FT)
FA that deals range BRV dmg and inflicts at least 1 debuff
The threshold indicator is just your usual Shinryu power up. Nothing to worry about.
Other than that they usually AOE attack you and inflict poison or do a ST BRV attack that inflicts a framed debuff called "snakebite". Can't say what it means though because I never let them bite me lol.
General Strat:
To simply put, don't let the boss use FA or go into FR. It is simply trouble and you run the risk of having to re-establish all of your buffs.
On the other hand, you would want to keep them off of that red aura, or the debuffs would be cleansed and they would heal to full. The 30/60% FG are simply "no dmg allowed" blockades until you dispel them with crit BRV dmg. Combined with the fact that you generally don't want they to go into FT, I would suggest you 1 cycle it after you dispel the 60% FG barrier, instead of wasting a turn in the middle of FT taking care of it. Or you can 2 cycle it in between.
The thinking process for this fight is more about how to make use of Aranea FR instead. Aranea FR has these 2 conditions:
1. Anyone in the team delays an enemy (once only per turn) = +40%
2. Character deals critical BRV dmg with turn pass = +30%
Note
1. that "delay" here includes any form of delay (not turn deletion), break inclusive. So all forms of breaks and rebreaks, in addition to skills that explicitly say they delay, would count towards this.
2. The delay condition only states that it counts once per turn, but it never specify that it has to be a player turn. So off-turn triggers in enemy turn actually counts.
Therefore, these interactions with other characters all count towards this 40%:
a. Caius's rebreaks after BT
b. Caius's doom breaks on enemy turns
c. Garland participating in the air
d. delay traps from someone like Emperor
e. all off-turn attacks/counters that happen to break the enemy
Among all these, Garland and Emperor's interactions are guaranteed. Caius too if the enemy is not immune to breaks. The others would have to wait for enemies to recover from breaks.
Since Aranea's debuff (now 6 turns) ensure you to have critical dmg, there are actually a plethora of ways you can get the full 70+X% and additional 40% from off-turns despite having a character that typically does not delay.
Additionally, it has 2 special effects:
1. Whenever Aranea breaks, she delays that target by 1 turn
2. Whenever there is critical dmg, all party members have 50% HP dmg up and 50% HP dmg cap up.
Note that the 50% HP dmg cap is incredibly disgusting. It is increased before the FR HP bonus % is applied, thus on someone like Tifa, Leo and Thancred; or characters that are under the effects of Leo/Lunafreya buffs would have compounding effects. The normal HP dump portion would also be further amplified by the FR bonus. This is also why Tifa is doing 40m+ with just one EX at the end.
Since Caius is so good for Aranea FR and his Ex (which delays) and LD (which rebreaks) are his hardest hitting buttons, it makes him incredibly good for participating in the FT phase, particularly when his BT also increases HP dmg cap.
He is also very good with Bahamut summon with the break bonus for battery purposes, especially with Aranea. Divine Bahamut also ensure that Tifa can spam EXs with the delay to enjoy the full FR bonus.
Aranea FR is very interesting and powerful, practically a very strong BT effect without the BT phase turns. It also makes rebreakers like Vayne more worthwhile with the increased HP dmg cap.
The off-turn potential is also there, especially if you have a teleporting boss. Ultimecia is probably going to take another beating for the off-turn bonus% test later. It is less potent when everyone pushes and delays the targets away, but one can argue that you can delay one target instead to fish for the off-turn bonus under normally circumstances (non-teleporting bosses).
