DFFOO [JP][Act 3 Ch10 part 2] Almighty Bhunivelze vs 3 FG chargers (Aerith, Sherlotta, Hope (no FR))
Absolutely love this chapter update, Nacho literally went "Oh crap, I accidentally awakened a God, what do I do now". Sadly, no Hope FR (definitive "yet"). Guess I will have to go hard when Hope BT eventually happens down the line.
I find the most iconic moves of Bhunivelze missing ... interesting. Seems like they are hiding those moves for Hope BT (judging from that Hope FR though). Nevertheless this fight has recreated some of the mechanics from the fight in LR.
Boss Info: Bhunivelze
Probably has the highest reduction and restriction/resistance to date simply by existing. The radiant god is no joke. Don't feel like he is overly spongy though, just the right amount of health despite being a ST Shinryu boss.
99/80% reduction
Lock BRV at at least 0% mBRV (cannot be broken)
Cannot be launched, delay, deleted
Force Mechanics:
20%: 200% physical BRV dmg reduction
50%: Counters physical attacks with Gigagraviton i.e. "You are dead"
Note: it does not seem to counter CAs or even off-turn attacks that are physical, as you can see from the Kain off-turn / kurasame CA.
FA: Almagest++ (simple break recovery AOE magic BRV+HP attack)
FT: 4 turn
Bhunivelze would speed up, sometimes even to the point of having a consecutive turn.
Weakness:
FA that deals magic BRV attack and at least inflict a debuff
(Hope and possibly Terra's?)
Hitting this weakness causes "knock out", cancelling "reinforcing defence"
- "Reinforcing Defence" is a 50% HP threshold mechanic that makes Bhunivelze takes 99/100% less BRV and HP dmg from all sources
- The Knock out status mean Bhunivelze is now taking increased HP/BRV dmg during player FT.
Fun fact: This interaction is a direct reference to how you can only deal real dmg to Bhunivelze during the last phase when he merged with the floor
Other mechanics:
1. If you get broken or get hit while broken by Almagest, his normal recast AOE, he follow-ups with the +version of the double headed scythe AOE and immediately kills everyone.
Threshold Mechanics:
80/60/40/20:
Just like in LR, Bhunivelze likes to cast Doom on you (this time it is AOE). it has 1 turn duration and it is a framed debuff. This is to potentially combo with Almagest, and instantly wipe you.
You can dodge this with debuff evasion, from someone like Aerith, or straight up with break prevention like Ursula or Alphinaud or Locke BT.
80/50%:
Bhunivelze does a 2 part colour-coded aura buff. 80% = action delay down (blue), 50% = ATK up (yellow).
50%:
Bhunivelze would apply "reinforcing defence", reducing all sources of dmg by 99/100% BRV/HP reduction. You would have to either beef your support aura up to take on the additional reduction or apply Force Weakness to "Knock Out" the radiant god from this madness.
Challenge and Approach:
This one is potentially a roster check, because 2/3 of your characters would die to the 50% FG effect as Bhuni counters all forms of physical attacks from that point onwards and the normal counter cheese teams are pretty much banned. A small jab of off-turn Kain dmg is still possible in the early portion though, but your timing has to be concise and avoid overstaying your welcome with a 3 turn only friend. Or he would be dead.
Bhunivelze has very high and multi-layer or reductions. I did not apply force weakness in this run, so you can see my BRV dmg at the end was around 5 lol. That should give you an idea of what kind of reduction
(and no innate crit because no break) you are dealing with.
Bhunivelze turns cannot be pushed in any form, and he gets progressively more turns. He does a lot of BRV hits and AOE HP dmg at a very high frequency. If he breaks you with certain moves, you are dead... and he can place doom on you.
My approach of incorporating Hope was for him to be a speed charger, healer and dmg mitigater. With him, it is very hard to die unless you used up your BRV and get broken.
Having 3 speed chargers means I can have more frequent FTs and not stuffing heavy dmg inside 1. Hope is a rare breed that has both of his skills (S2 now also instant) with 50% HP bonus/speed charge properties. So he is one of the greatest chargers out there.
Since he is also one that uses transformed HP+ to attack, he fits right in with Aerith/Sherlotta FR, even without his own FR.
Note that since Aerith/Sherlotta FR both has a component of needing to provide BRV to others while this boss is immune to breaks, I changed one of Sherlotta's C sphere from Pecil's to Yuna's (not an aura BRV regen). With it and HP regen, Sherlotta would actively battery others regardless of what she does in her turn. So she can still has 60+X% when she throws her staff.
With Sherlotta BT, everyone has a Cait Sith effect for additional BRV for each BRV hit. People would also get end turn BRV refund on top of what they already have. With all 3 of them giving BRV gain, I can deal max dmg and bypass all those crazy BRV dmg reduction without a problem.
Overall very interesting fight that requires thinking.
