[DFFOO JP][Jegran Lufenia+ (Arc 3 Ch 5 pt 1)]Y'shtola, Balthier, Jegran
Tbh the exiestence of the Ace friend was kind of a filler because I could not find another friend lol, so no need to pay too much attention to that.
Since the JP account is kind of a means for me to see the potential of new characters, I pulled Jegran, tried for Kuja and Balthier. Kuja did not want to give me his LD, so no BT+ for him.
Jegran:
Despite being a selfish DPS character, his crystallisation mechanic surprisingly has a lot of depth to it.
Since crystallisation at 3 stacks triggers crystal fist at the start of Jegran's turn, but that only happens once even if all enemies have 3 stacks, what you want to do is actually not have all enemies at 3 stacks, because after crystal fist any 3 stacks would be reduced to 0. You want enemies to have an incremental difference so that you can extract a crystal fist as frequently as possible.
S1: ST 1 stack
S2: AoE 1 stack
Ex: AoE 2 stacks
LD: ST 3 stacks + splash 1 stack
C65: 2 stacks
Brv atk: 2 stacks
HP atk: 1 stack
BT: Lock at 3 stacks, also always rainbow numbers
If one of the adds or other boss is at 3 stacks, crystal fist triggers and the stacks below 3 would be preserved. So use this mechanic with different skills accordingly. LD, EX and S2 gives Jegran buffs, with LD buff being the most important in relation to the rainbow numbers, so while you play around with the stacks, do be mindful of the buff durations.
His EX, LD and crystal fists are powerful ignore defence attacks, with crystal fist having chances of rainbow numbers outside of BT. His damage is more consistent than expected and is quite self-sufficient, ranging from (2+)1~3 HP dumps per turn, provided that you can manage the crystallisation stacks.
BT phase in relation to this fight:
I opted for a safer approach and not overlapping his actual BT with BT+ and chose to do them separately to extend the duration of his BT effect. Ideally you can have a really bombastic BT phase if:
1. do it under BT+ so
(a) everything is in rainbow numbers
(b) always have crystal fist active so extra 2 HP dumps on every turn
(c) Brv cap+50% meaning more HP damage cap without external help or needing brv hits from additional enemies
2. have HP damage cap up (e.g. certain HA+ like Y'shtola, Cait Sith, BT effects like Lann and Reynn, Yuna) so that the value of his extra dumps goes even further
3. Cait Sith LD/Iroha etc that retains or gain extra brv if you feel like something extra to ensure HP damage at cap 100% of the time on every hit
I can see him as a very good friend unit if you want BT+ 3x 5 HP dumps + a 4 HP dump all at rainbow numbers in a short frame of time to push pass phases. He should perform quite consistently outside of synergy as well with rainbow numbers and ignore defence.
Balthier:
Balthier after rework is actually very strong, both as a DPS and a support, especially if you give him some help with brv gain. He performs exceptionally well with multiple target fights, particularly those with small adds so that his AoE Brv hits can get more damage out of them. I can also see him maintaining multiple orbs at ease (if his BRV hits satisfy the orb in some way, like being enchanted or orb requiring ranged attack). Had I have a lot of surplus materials, I would like to HA+3 him, since his HP cap is very high and he averages on 2-3 HP dumps.
Fight:
Orb: +8(/15) when having a debuff/special effect at 2 stacks or above at the start of boss turn
Reduction: 90/90
This fight is kind of similar to Yda's heretic quest, boss needs to move to uptick the orb, and it summons adds (but these adds does not have additional power-ups and defences). It also summon adds after its recast. If add is not dead, it still "summon" adds up to 2 on the screen at a time, and revert any adds already in the field to full HP. As long as you maintain some form of special effect or debuff at 2 stacks or above, the orb would not go off. Jack, Exdeath debuffs do work (I suspect Trey work as well, but I haven't tested it). So it is very flexible to find characters to fulfil it.
Trouble mainly comes when it is after 49%, when it starts using a very strong ST Brv+HP attack which would likely kill anyone that is not a tank if it is not debuffed. It also gains a red aura that strengthen the boss' defence. Since I don't have Setzer, I used Y'shtola's last stand to withstand that attack and act as a BRV gain provided for both Balthier and Jegran as a means to deal with the Lufenia+ reduction. With Cait Sith's call on top of Y'shtola BT, they capped damage in those 2 CA turns.
While the adds are relatively harmless, they do have low action delay and can AoE attack, so do be mindful not to be broken into oblivion, or it may get dicey when they start dumping HP attacks on you.
