When it comes to leveling up legendary gem, a common approach is to go for efficiency and play a rift that is no higher than 15 level above the current gem rank. These days, I don't do that. Because it is just boring. I augment the ancients with legendary gems so as to become more powerful to ... do low rifts? I literally fall asleep while playing low rift. So I go high these days. Not as high as I can. But as high as my character does not die. It is that sense of danger that keeps me alert. In my opinion, high rifts are fun. I improve my gears so as to play content that is more challenging. Not the other way round :)
