Despite my frustrations with the Auction House-oriented structure of the later difficulty levels (and my own still woefully inadequate gear as a direct result of me not having used the AH much yet), Diablo III can still offer an involved and rewarding gameplay experience now that many combat encounters include large groups of enemies and/or powerful "blue"/"yellow" units and thus at the very least demand some quick thinking and basic co-ordination to get through.
