Diablo IV is a long awaited game with very large shoes to fill. Thankfully I am happy to report it was worth the wait, but there are definitely some issues.

Now nobody plays these type of games for the story but I'll tell you it anyways. You are playing as the Wanderer, who is essentially going to become the chosen one of this universe, and you can choose from 5 classes to play as. Your mission is to defeat Lilith, the daughter of one of the three Prime Evils. Lilith and her father Mephisto fight for control over the world of Sanctuary, each attempting to persuade the Wanderer to join them, but you refuse to be a servant to demons and will try to free the land of their corruption.

Diablo 4 is not a disappointing game by any means, it just lacks in a few areas here and there which prevent it from being classified as a genuine masterpiece or greatest of all time. It has some of the best music in any Blizzard game and the entire journey feels like one epic Peter Jackson movie start to finish. This is a game that is difficult to put down because you will see yourself getting closer and closer to whatever goal you have set for yourself. The art style is stunning and I love how it appears hand painted and authentic to the eye.

Where Diablo 4 fails the most is in it's post-launch maintenance and the fact it is an online only game that requires an internet connection no matter what to play. There is also some aggressive monetization through premium currency and a battle pass which I don't like seeing considering this game was very expensive to acquire in the first place. I expect to have a bunch of mount customization options by default when I purchase the game, but there are practically none and all are obtained through the shop via overpriced premium currency. While the game is online only this time, I feel it doesn't utilize that nearly enough to warrant it, while you will occasionally see players on their horses and one or two folk in cities, this is a generally lonely feeling game with little to no social interaction whatsoever despite being online only.

Diablo 4 is a great cinematic story package with a huge open world and plenty of interesting bosses to fight, but the experience becomes a bit soured when you realize you're forced to have an internet connection, which is even worse on consoles since you will have to pay the company a monthly fee to be able to play the game you purchased at all due to services like PS Plus being mandatory, and it's unapologetic microtransactions which spoil the fun. It is still a great game though, and I can recommend it for it's engaging story, unique character building, and open world gameplay with plenty of content to explore and stay busy with.
