Resident Evil 4 - Game Review
The 2023 Resident Evil 4 remake is simply one of the greatest cinematic gaming experiences one can have to date. There is not just one defining difference as to why I consider this one superior to the past 3 games, but several.
6 years have passed since Raccoon City was destroyed. Leon is sent to Spain to rescue Ashley, who is the daughter of the president of the United States. Leon encounters many obstacles in his journey, which all in some form are connected to a parasitic species called Plaga which make the host bodies stronger but lose their sense of self and reasoning; it's essentially brain washing. Leon meets new friends and old, some of which are not too friendly.
Resident Evil 4 is the best narrative driven survival horror game to ever exist in my opinion. The graphics and cinematics are of the highest quality, and more importantly, the systems have been refined and the game length is about 6 times longer than the previous game, all the while boasting better gameplay sections, areas, and quite literally everything compared to previous titles. While I am someone who prefers the horror side to Resident Evil as opposed to the action side, one can not deny that you get an equal amount of both which pleases everyone, and it was executed extremely well as to not take away from each other. Leon is definitely my favorite protagonist character thus far, and that is simply because he is a fearless and respectable man on a mission, who does not let the odds overcome him.
The character development in a Resident Evil title has never been stronger than here, re-introducing us to the mysterious wild card Ada, and a particularly memorable boss battle with Jack Krauser, the man who trained Leon to be as cool as he is. The game even has time to set up what's to come in the future with the return of Wesker, and I couldn't be more excited. While many have criticized Ashley for being annoying and getting in the way, that was not my experience at all. I felt Ashley was about as perfect as an escort mission NPC companion can get, she is an attractive puppy eyed follower whom you have the unquestioned devotion and trust of . . . Perfect wife material actually.
The original Resident Evil 4 is one of the greatest games ever made and this remake does it so much justice, boasting high quality cinematic entertainment start to finish. The game is also surprisingly challenging and will require you to actually plan your escape with Ashley in terms of managing ammo and supplies, and money.
