"The Final Destination" (2009) directed by David R. Ellis continues the slow and steady decline of the series. This one tries to distract me with pretty girls and boobs and butts but I can see through it's tricks for what it really is.

A group of young adults are at the track watching cars race. One of them has a premonition of their coming deaths, and freaks out, pleading for everyone around him to leave. Some of them leave, and the ones who didn't die in horrible ways. They have now cheated death, but only temporarily, as each of them will now die in a predetermined order unless they can do something about it.

Final Destination 4 is now the fourth film in a row to repeat the exact same concept and ideas, and I've personally had enough. I will be watching the fifth one soon purely due to sunk-cost fallacy, and I don't expect much from it, but I pray it can take the series in a new direction as I am very tired of this formula now. The brutal death scenes are still decent of course but these are definitely the worse in the series so far due to constant cheap looking CGI. I do appreciate that it's staying campy and non-serious, but I'm seriously desperate to see these characters try a strategy other than intervention, because it obviously doesn't work time and time again.

Now I'm actually going to play feminist for a second here. Everyone knows B-movie horrors are like spiritual softcore porn films because they're already rated R for their violence and gore, and want additional reasons to get people to buy tickets (pointless nude scenes and casting people based on their attractiveness rather than their merit or talent), but this one was particularly annoying and poorly done. I will now describe the female characters of this film: there is hot girl #1, hot girl#2, hot girl #3, hot girl that gets naked, and a character who's literal name is MILF in the actual official credits of the film. Now I will describe the male characters: there is the protagonist guy who experiences bad omens and has premonitions, his best friend who is obsessed with his lucky coin, the black guy who is a victim of racism and also killed his family in a drunk driving accident, the angry mechanic who wishes to better his life after the traumatic loss of his wife . . . Do you see the difference here?

I guess every Final Destination film is technically trash to some degree, but this one is actual trash in the full definition and I doubt many would argue against me on saying that. The series refuses to evolve, explain anything, or have any sense of stakes or rules.
