This was one YouTube rabbit hole I was very glad to fall down! The idea of upgrading the lens on my webcam simply never occurred to me, but apparently astronomers have been modding webcams for years to use them on telescopes. Once you realise that some webcams have an off-the-shelf standard lens thread, the world is your oyster.

And with this varifocal lens, I can get anywhere between approx. 30° and 90° field of view with a couple of twists. Imagine the potential for top-down cameras that always seem to show just too little or too much of your desk...with this, you can just tune it 'til it's right, or zoom in for fine detail. In my case, I can avoid the need to crop my image to match the size of my green screen...now I can just zoom in, instead.
