Howdy Gamers! Today I wanted to dive deeper into a topic of interest that I have discussed on the channel before. Did Rockstar Games take the idea for Grand Theft Auto as we know it from a rival game developer Reflections Interactive and their series DRIVER? While Grand Theft Auto came onto the scene in October 1997 it was a 2D game with a top down perspective. Driver: You Are the Wheelman on the other hand released in 1999 and was open world 3D. In the year 2000 Driver 2 would release allowing the player to explore 4 open world, 3D, photo-realistic cities on foot. This was revolutionary for the time. It wasn't until the year 2001 that GTA III would enter the picture and take the Grand Theft Auto series to new heights. Adapting everything that Driver introduced but doing it better. This would then lead to a battle of the developers as I like to call it between Rockstar and Reflections taking shots at one another through their games.
