Digimon World 1 released by Bandai for the PlayStation in 1999 is the first of the Digimon video games if you don't count the handheld virtual pet devices. You play as a youth who has been suddenly been sucked into the Digital World through his virtual pet or Digi-vice in order to solve the mystery of File Island. Why have all the Digimon gone missing from the main town and why have so many gone mad?

In the Digi-World, players raise various Digimon, who go through entire life cycles, evolving into more powerful forms as they gain experience in battle, before re-incarnating into a new form to start all over again only with improved stats. Raising your Digimon is a massive aspect of the game alongside the real-time battles where players issue commands to their Digimon but don't quite control them, while also managing their Digimon's health and energy levels with items. It's a unique system unlike any other game out there.
