Digital Archaeologists Complete Epic Quest All 54 iPod Clickwheel Games Finally Preserved
Remember when your iPod was more than just a music player?
Those classic clickwheel games are back, and every single one has been saved.
A dedicated community refused to let Apple's restrictive DRM erase gaming history.
Led by GitHub user Olsro, the project reached its peak when "Real Soccer 2009" became the final game preserved on September 7th.
Early on, people had to mail their iPods for data extraction.
But Olsro's virtual machine breakthrough allowed remote uploads, opening the door for contributors worldwide.
Now, all 54 games are available for download on GitHub and the Internet Archive.
For many, these games are a unique chapter in portable gaming history.
Thanks to this community, a piece of tech history is safe for future generations.
