Quick overview of farming in Dinkum and simple tips for fast success.

Hey guys bread god here with my dinkum guide on farming. this will be a quick overview on farming and simple tips to get you to become a million dollar farm

ill first overview the licenses and progression. youll get the first farming license from fletch for 250 points. this will unlock the basics including the ability for Rayne, the NPC, to show up at your island and some unlocked recipes, most importantly for leveling the grain mill and compost bin. we can see that we need leevl 20 for level 3 farming and it used to take a lot of exp but it has been patched and is much easier now but ill show you a simple method to get your level up there fast

once we unlock farming level 3 we can unlock the irrigation license, which is what youll need for the basic and advanced sprinklers. the water tank is required to provide water to the sprinklers and well overview the best ways to set up your late game farm

lastly youll unlock the agriculture vehicle license, which lets you build the tractor. each level just unlocks an attachment for plowing, harvesting, and planting. ill show you how it works later too

so once you get the level 1 farming license youll wait for rayne to show up and purchase the watering can, the hoe, and some seeds. for each seed youll find the seasons it will grow in, the time it takes to grow, how many theyll produce each harvest and how often theyll regrow if they do like tomatoes and corn.

to start farming, it's pretty straight forward you'll use the hoe to plow the field and then youll plant some seeds and then water the seeds and wait for them to grow. you can refill the can at any water source including a well furniture item. if you forget to water the seeds they wont continue to grow so in the beginning it will be tedious and a new daily chore.

as a fast strategy, i recommend growing wheat only in the beginning. not only does it grow year round, it will produce wheat that can be milled in the grain mill for flour which also gives you exp boost. you can then bake them into bread for either more money or a powerful food item.
another tip is you can plant seeds by holding down the button instead of clicking individually. also while im here, i would save tomatoes and green beans because you can only harvest them manually since the tractor will not go over the post and will get stuck. harvesting crops also gives exp so harvest as soon as they are ready

the tractor has 3 attachments that you can cycle through with the right mouse button. you then hold down the left mouse button to use that contraption. although my farm looks pretty with this water channel in between, it is actually inefficient since i cant just drive over it so if you want to be lazy i would go with some more basic plots.

speaking of plots, here is a nice picture courtesy of the wiki (as is most of the info here today). youll see the dark blue circles being the placement of the water tanks versus the spinklers. while you can use these advanced versions for the most plants possible, i actually prefer this plot which only produces 380 pieces in a 20x20 formation. the reason why, is because i can drive my tractor over it efficiently without regard for any wasted spaces. by the way you can bury the water tank, but you dont need to for sprinklers since the tractor will pass through them

once you set up your farm i would fence the farm to prevent animals, and also use scarecrows to prevent birds. if you want to prevent all birds you would need one in each corner since they only cover 11x11 range. i use one just for aesthetic reasons

now quickly to talk about fertilizer. once you put the fertilizer into the ground it will reduce the grow time by 25% so something that takes 8 days will only take 6 to grow. you can actually re-use the fertilized land and it'll stay fertilized as long as you keep planting something on it before the land disappears [25% chance to disappear if empty]. you can make fertilizer via the compost bin or a worm farm which is a recipe you get with level 20 bug catching.

there is also a plant book that rayne will give you at 2 hearts which will tell you the time left for the crop. don't lose this as i don't know of a way to get it back

finally, to get super rich, there's a merchant named jimmy that can spawn when you have 1 million dinks in your bank. he appears as an x on your map and is on a boat. it'll take some time to get to 1 million but once you do, i would horde whatever you want to sell since he only buys in bulk of 50 items but the saying is true. the rich get richer.

so that's it for my farming guide hopefully it was short and simple to follow and i wish you all success in your dinkum farming careers. if it pleases you, i would appreciate if you liked, subscribed, and left a comment on your thoughts. have a nice day.
