DIRE DIRE DOCKS RECREATED with the KORG PROLOGUE (VPM Engine from Minilogue XD) SUPER MARIO 64
I LOVE the song DIre Dire Docks by Koji Kondo from the water levels in Super Mario 64. It was probably created using the Yamaha DX7ii Electric Piano preset "Full Tines' run through a lot of chorus and reverb. I set myself the challenge of recreating the sound myself, using the Korg Prologue's VPM (Variable Phase Maniuplation) engine. The same engine is in the minilogue xd. I wouldn't say I was highly succesful, you can't compare a two operator FM engine to a 6 operator one. Nevertheless, I think the is an interesting attempt at recreating one of my favorite sounds and I made a beautiful pad in the meantime.
