I like this approach personally: Discuss what I think I know before I have anything to show for it. Then, once I have something to show, go back and see which assumptions were how right or wrong for what reasons. It helps me to not forget what learning was like, so I don't forget how to communicate to someone less experienced if ever I need to do that.
