Disney's The Jungle Book: Key Stage 1 (2003) - Maths Activities Longplay
46One bright sunny morning, Baloo comes crashing out of the jungle. Mowgli is on the outskirts of the village and is delighted to see Papa Bear. Baloo is very agitated; he has something very important to show Mowgli. Baloo and Mowgli run through the jungle when Baloo suddenly stops and points out fresh paw prints - Shere Khan is back in the area. The tiger has sworn he will kill Mowgli - could Shere Khan attack the Man Village just to get Mowgli?
As the two friends try to figure out what to do, Baloo remembers an old jungle story. An explorer settled in the ruins of an old temple further in the jungle and lived there for many years. He befriended many jungle animals and was never attacked by any dangerous animal, as he possessed some kind of magical object that frightened even the most ferocious of animals. Baloo has no idea what this terrifying magical object is but he does know where the ancient ruins are. The two friends set off to explore these ruins in the hope of finding whatever it was the explorer owned that could frighten Shere Khan away.... forever.
Once Mowgli and Baloo arrive at the ancient ruins, they soon discover that searching will not be enough to find this magical object. The explorer's animal friends still live in the ruins and are not willing to hand over their master's possessions to just anybody. Mowgli and Baloo have to prove themselves worthy. Through English, Maths and Science exercises, Baloo, Mowgli and you will have to explore the ancient ruins, collecting clues that will finally lead you to the hiding place of the object that "all tigers fear".

What better way is there to learn than to have fun while gaining knowledge or practicing something already known? Disney Interactive has produced Disney Jungle Book Key Stage One, a wonderful piece of software proving that the National Curriculum and fun can go hand in hand.
The program has been developed specifically by Key Stage One teachers from the UK based on the National Curriculum and using relevant UK teaching methods. Come and join Baloo the bear and Mowgli the mancub from the Disney movie The Jungle Book in their adventures to find a magical object that will prevent Shere Khan the dreaded tiger from attacking and killing Mowgli. Let your children play the games and meet with Banana and Barnaby the monkeys, Mango the vulture, the Caracal and Jacko the Parrot. Through taking part in English, Maths and Science exercises, they will find all the clues that will help them to prove they're worthy and so find the object that "all tigers fear".
Curriculum content includes English (spelling, sentence construction, following instructions, syllables, reading comprehension and word recognition), Maths (addition and subtraction, measurement, counting and place value, time, shape and space) and science (variation and classification and the Human Body). The program has an "auto-levelling" system that allows it to detect your child's level in each activity. Children are moved forward if the concept or skill has been mastered.
An excellent, comprehensive pamphlet accompanies the package and a work book containing the type of exercises included on the CD-ROM allows for further practice and reinforcement away from the PC. This package is a sheer delight and will provide lots of enjoyment and fun for children aged 5-7 years. --Susan Naylor
