Disruptor Game Sample - Playstation
Currently one of the new "Playstation Uploads" tossed into the mix, there is one thing that generally everyone agrees on (whether they like the game or not), and that is that Disruptor had EXCELLENT graphics for when the game was made as far as environmental clarity (the enemy designs themselves are largely standard). As long as you don't mind a single-player FPS experience, it's largely an excellent game too, and an excellent debut for Insomniac Games (who would later produce, Spyro, Ratchet & Clank, etc.)
Many people expected the game to be the evolution of Doom, but that was probably asking for too much considering when the title was made, though it does attempt to distance itself at least a little. As Jack Curtis, you'll travel through roughly a dozen levels of varying size and intensity while learning to use weapons as well as "Psionic" powers, similar to psychokinesis.
On one hand, psionic powers can be looked at as a means to differentiate itself from Doom's multitude of weapons on a cosmetic level. On the other hand, psionics can alter the playing experience quite differently from any of the weapons present in Doom. Psionics can do simple things such as deal damage to healing your character to even draining some of an enemies' health while restoring some of your abilities. I assume one can see how that's different from simply getting a bigger and badder weapon that deals more damage. Some levels make weapon refills scarce, so you'll have to become more accustomed to psionics, while others test your reflexes and ability to conserve ammo altogether.
The game is perhaps on the easier side (even on highest difficulty) and the game is fairly short, but it is certainly one of the better "Doom Clones" for PS1. It uses good quality live-action FMV scenes with so-so (to bad) acting and has atmospheric music. Enjoy.
