Disturbing Video Game Music 91: Confronting the Demon - Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story
Though not quite a full example of a licensed game being good, Dragon: the Bruce Lee Story (based off of the movie of the same name) is a decent fighter. I have never seen the movie this game is based off of, but I do know it is a (highly embellished) biography of Bruce Lee who is constantly being pursued by a mysterious demonic warrior. The game incorporates the demon as the final boss, but also in its very unique game over.
Instead of lives Bruce Lee has these magic mirror things that keep the demon away from him, when he loses a fight one breaks. When all are broken the demon comes to take Bruce's soul in an unwinnable fight. Good news is that while the demon is unbeatable in this fight, if you are able to survive his onslaught of attacks for a certain amount of time (no easy task) your mirrors will regenerate and you are back in the game! The flip side is though is that though you can actually kill the demon in the final boss, if he beats YOU in the final battle you have no second chances.
The music for fighting the demon is the same regardless of the situation. This ominous drone interspaced with what sounds like a clock ticking and someone breathing makes these fights all the more tense.
