Divinity Original Sin Walkthrough and Review(Description)Part 2-KJS
Bought this game on a super-sale type deal because I had heard lots of good things and finally wanted to give it a try. I enjoyed it well enough at first, roaming about the beaches, getting gently intoduced to the story and mechanics by getting an entire starter-dungeon type thing to explore. It was nice.
Then I got to Cyseal, the main area of the game you'll be stuck in for a while. I say "stuck" because there's a lot to do/see, and while I initially enjoyed the 'theme park'-esque ye olde dialogue, I found it to get quite repeatative (and a bit tiring even) after hearing so much of it without a break inbetween. It was made especially worse by having my voice volume still on, hearing all of the merchants shout the same repetative lines about their wares over and over with very little respite.
I had to eventually turn the voices off, and while it certainly made going about the town a little easier I still would've liked to have seen the ammount of things to do there broken up a little bit. As a video game player who wants to explore every inch of a location before leaving, the value of everything I was learning felt lessened because of how much there was to see in the town. If I could've left and came back after a while, and walk in on some new event or strange happening going on, I likely would've felt much more engaged with all of the different little side-stories.
That said though, the turn-based combat was solid. I enjoy when I can accidentally cause something bad to happen to my allies by getting them caught in a fireball or not realizing the surface they were stood on was a puddle of water and shooting lightning at their nearest foe. The skills felt varied and impactful, and I always enjoy talent-based systems that let me make my character what I imagine rather than just straight up 'class' systems where the only ones who can heal or shoot magic are cloth-wearing squishies.
