DmC Devil May Cry: DE playthrough [Vergil's Downfall] [Part 4: Heartless]
0This is the Vergil's Downfall DLC, included on-disc on the PS4 version of Ninja Theory's 2013 Devil May Cry reboot, DmC Devil May Cry.
Vergil's Downfall is a very obvious case of DLC being thrown together as an afterthought on a much lower budget. Vergil's weapons and abilities are far less interesting than Dante's are which really make this portion of the game feel slow and boring, and the plot (the little of it there is) just comes off as stupid.
I'm playing NG+ for this portion of the game - Vergil's gameplay feels a lot more clunky than Dante's and I wanted to get a reasonably smooth run down, so this works out better. Thankfully you don't miss anything notable this way.
The cutscenes are very obviously thrown together in this style to avoid having to spend money on more motion capture (which, to be fair, is likely quite an expensive process). I really don't like the art style, but hey, each to their own.
I quite liked the main game in DmC, so this feels pretty disappointing. Oh well.
