In this talk, I'll focus on a major gap in DML practice: the lack of inclusion of learners with special needs. The gap can be seen in two places. First, there is lots of cool work with youth in digital literacy studies (see this conference program for examples) but little attention to youth with disabilities--learning disabilities, autism spectrum, behavioral issues, etc. Second, in the special education world, technology is used to assist and to instruct, but seldom to allow kids to create, or make, digital products. I'll use examples from my own research to address this gap, and ask the audience to think about how to address the equity issues involved.
