#DMTips: On Balancing Encounters in OSR D&D

I've noticed questions from DMs who are coming into the OSR from modern D&D and are used to the tools, imperfect though they may be, for balancing monster encounters, around how to balance or at least measure the deadliness of monsters in the OSR game. The bad news first: that type of balancing is not a native idea in OSR D&D, in terms of trying to finely tune an encounter. However, if you want to get some insight into what monster encounters were deemed appropriate and fair for different party levels, look at the random monster tables for dungeons.
