Note: Lost the video due to misadventure in the home studio but, luckily, I had a backup audio file so enjoy some fine, vintage toymaking which you listen to me wax on (and off) about hit points in Dungeons & Dragons.

Whether playing fifth edition Dungeons and Dragons or an OSR D&D-adjacent RPG, hit points seem to be a point of confusion and consternation for new and old players (and DMs) alike. I go back to the first edition (AD&D) Dungeon Master's Guide to get an explanation from Gary Gygax himself and I use it to springboard into a discussion of the concept of hit points in D&D and D&D-like games.
