It's been a while since I began a channel and with all the new changes to YouTube itself, I think going back to basics might be a good way to start. If you plan on using all of YouTube's features you'll want to be sure to have them enabled. Doing so can take time so, you'll want to set this up first.

Setting up all your channel's feature eligibilities will allow you to:
upload videos, create playlists, make videos over 15 minutes, create custom thumbnails, and live-stream and it is required if you ever want to apply for the YouTube Partner Program.

So be sure to enable these settings as soon as you possibly can.
