Do We Still Need Traditional RAG?
We discussed the core limitations of traditional RAG systems: they mostly retrieve static text chunks from a vector database and feed them to an LLM, which reduces hallucination but results in bland, text-only, and often out-of-date responses. We examined how those flat chunking strategies lose structure, ignore live updates, and fail to personalize or present results in concise, action-oriented ways, so users get long, unhelpful passages instead of the quick, relevant answers or actions they expect. We also discussed how RAG can be enriched and effectively replaced by more capable pipelines that combine retrieval with additional tools and structure:
