Does Whatever A Pepsi Can! - Episode 2: Pepsi Hax

Well, that didn't take long.
On Sunday night, when I failed to beat Pepsiman is a single session, I basically decided that to keep the ball rolling, I'd start up my next game if I was able to finish this one by midnight. To say that it was a surprise to be firing up something different by 11PM would be an understatement. To the point where I'm a bit ashamed that I didn't decide to grind it out on Sunday, just so I could dedicate the entire night to something else.
I mean, I *understand* why I called it quits. I had work the next day and I had clearly hit the point of frustration where taking a breather and regrouping later on wouldn't be quite as demoralizing as it often is. I was only really worried about losing the muscle memory I'd built up -- especially considering how long it took me to learn the first section of 4-2 -- but it came back surprisingly quick. Honestly, it just took me building the muscle memory for the *final* segment to get through the stage. And the final chase sequence was significantly easier by comparison. Honestly, the fact that the Pepsi cans weren't literally firing out of the larger object chasing after me (like the logs in 3-3) made it a lot easier to parse out and beat the area. I didn't even have to use a continue to get through there after finally beating 4-2. The logs were way more of a time sink by comparison.
KI thought my score for Pepsiman was a bit high, but I do tend to factor things like "charm" into my score. For example, while A Week in Garfield was ostensibly a worse game than the likes of Donkey Kong 64 or even Greendog, the literal broken nature of the title was enjoyable. That's why I scored it higher than, say, Bubsy 3D or Castlevania: The Adventure. The latter is definitely a less "broken" game, but Garfield was literally broken to the point where there were exploits. A janky little disaster like that is always going to beat out an incompetent recreation of something that was actually enjoyable at one point. That being said, the contemporary Import reviews I saw for the game definitely oversold it -- how could my beloved Gamefan Magazine give this a 90?
