In my time as a docent at the US Space and Rocket Center, I have been asked questions about Global Warming. After a conversation yesterday, I realized that one of the common questions could be answered with some straightforward math. I do this math in this video, all recorded in real time, so you can see where it all came from.

Statements about Global Warming that are easily verifiable.

1. Carbon is a Greenhouse Gas
2. Carbon Dioxide levels are rising
3. Earth's average temperature is rising

Questions
1. Where is the CO2 coming from?
2. What will the impact be from the rising CO2?
3. Does the increase of CO2 match the increase in temperature?

Hypothesis: CO2 comes from burning fossil fuels

300 ppm pre-industry
400 ppm where is today

mass or volume

assume mass

100 ppm increase in CO2 by mass

100 kN/ sq meter
10 tons/ sq meter

Weight of atmosphere
564,087,740,000,000
5,640,000,000,000,000
5.7 quadrillion tons
564,000,000,000 tons of CO2

35 billion barrels of oil burned per year
136 kg/ barrel

C4H10 + O2

CO2 * 4 + H2O * 5

35 * 136 * 3

14 billion tons of CO2 per year

564 / 14
