South Africa Vs. England - Test Match at Newlands Cricket Ground
Day 1, Evening Session Highlights.

South Africa resume in the 3rd Session of Day 1 on 16 for no loss.

The England bowlers do well to build some early pressure, Anderson and Broad beating the outside edge on several occasions.

South Africa are able to weather the storm though and Elgar and Van Zyl soon find their scoring touch. The bowlers continue to target the area just outside off-stump in order to tempt the drive from the batsmen but they aren’t able to entice any edges.

England then try a change of attack and have spin from both ends in the form of Moeen Ali and the part-timer Joe Root. With South Africa scoring at a steady rate and looking in little danger England use up a review, a hopeful shout for LBW from Joe Root, the ball not doing nearly enough and shown to be comfortably sliding down leg side. The very definition of a desperate review.

South Africa then go on the offensive, scoring sixes in consecutive overs against Root and Ali, bringing up the 100 partnership in style.

After the carnage Broad is brought back in to the attack just before the close of play, and he makes the breakthrough England desperately needed, trapping Van Zyl LBW for an excellent 63. He almost repeats the trick with Hashim Amla’s first ball, the on field umpire unmoved but England review, however the ball is shown to be missing leg stump.

And with that the first day draws to a close. England will be disappointed, their score of 299 does not look anywhere near enough, South Africa are firmly in control at 105/1.

PC Version, Pro difficulty, using reduced skills on a hard grassy surface, wearing with light cracks.
