Donkey Kong Classics (NES) - Was The Missing Cement Factory Level That Big Of A Deal?!
Episode 44 - The arcade games Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr. needs no introduction. They're the Godfather of the platformer genre. Due to their insane popularity in the arcade, it was a no-brainer to port these games over to the NES/Famicom.
At the time of their release, these ports were by far the best for home consoles, blowing away other ports, especially the Atari 2600 one. An amazing compilation containing both of these games was released two years later in the US, just in time for Christmas of 1988. But, as with all 8-bit and 16-bit arcade ports, certain aspects of the games had to be omitted to fit everything onto the 16KB cartridge. But most famously, the cement factory level on Donkey Kong was omitted from the NES port. But... did most people notice? Did it affect the NES port that much? Did the Donkey Jr. port suffer the same fate? Let's find out!
