Externals are used to protect your main TC from griefing, but the externals themselves can be exploited. You can overlap your externals to prevent a raider from exploiting your 1st placed external. But unless you do it properly you may prevent yourself from replacing TCs in the event of a raid.

While uploading I've also realized you can more cheaply do this with half the foundations by using wall frames to connect them if you prefer.
