Doom Classic video #5
(20.4.1994)

(Links, secrets and more information at the bottom of the description)

Hello. 5th one's turn next, with almost like a medium-sized map:
Nearing 200 monsters, almost dozen secrets and closer to 100 items to pick up too.

Level looks simple, but there's this right and wrong choice that can be made at the start too.
If you go into the blue skull key room too soon and without foreknowledge, you have a very good chance to die there:
• You go in far enough -- Doorway gets sealed
• You go towards the switch -- Monsters start swarming the room.
• But wait! Your attention is taken by some monsters and a baron of hell.
...So, you might not notice, what happens at which time.
• Maybe you hit the switch to open doorway again, but you're blocked off and swarmed with just a pistol and perhaps a shotgun on your hand... No weapon like chaingun or plasma gun..
You're dead: ...Out of space & ammo.

On 2nd try, you definitely want plasma there. See the 2x big packs? A clue perhaps, but that clue comes too late for the 1st time!
So yeah, that'll be the most difficult part of the map. Rest of it is quite normal action: More straightforward and not much of a difficulty-spike thrown at you in vanilla-mode..

With Hard Doom, there's a bit more possibility of unforeseen difficulty in the form of rare spawns, as can be seen in this video, but at least you're not trapped into a room in such cases, like you'd be in Blue Skull Key -room.

There's not too much hp / armor given throughout the 1st half, but then suddenly it turns upside-down and you sort of get too much of it.

As far as secrets go, there was definitely a huge concentration there at the start.. (and turned out that I even remembered the number wrong for the sheer amount of them there. Not 6, but 7 of them!)
If we're thinking this level only, the choice of making 11th secret is very questionable too.
Basically: Why are you given 2 mega-armors, soulsphere and a bfg, when you'd be done with the level?

Overall, few odd choices here and there, but still quite ok to play through!
