Frankly I wasn't even aware that the two demons zapping around were summoners. I read up on them and realized I should take them out first because they continue to add demons to the fight. Unfortunately I was low on ammo so I had to do what I could to get some Gauss ammo before taking them on. If I'm getting overwhelmed I tend to carefully pick away at an area rather than move around aggressively.

Even then I didn't always succeed - I would still fumble the controls now and then and have the wrong weapon out, and sometimes get cornered by summoned hellknights because I would fight them while backing up and hit a wall. To prevent getting cornered, I need to remember I can turn and move away from hellknights freely - there are no ranged weapons from them to dodge, and they always attack where I am at that moment, not where I'm going.

Eventually, I finally beat the encounter by being more effectively aggressive and not fumblingly errant.

Still getting the hang of it. Part of the replayability in this game is having each area memorized so that you know exactly where the powerups are. That would make each fight much easier.
