Doom 64 - MAP28: The Absolution
21Doom 64 was the Nintendo 64's incarnation of the popular Doom franchise. The gameplay, weapons and monsters remained fairly the same as in the DOS versions; however, the atmosphere was entirely different. Doom which consisted of fast adrenaline metal tracks Doom 64 took an entirely different approach with its ambient soundtrack. Most of the levels in the game, especially the levels that took place in hell, were very dark in presence with darkly lit areas, mutilated corpses of former humans scattered about together with a unnervingly hellish red sky with lightning going on all around the player.
Unfortunately, and undeserving in my opinion, Doom 64 was poorly met by critics and fans of the past games due to these changes.
Doom 64 is a scary and very disturbing game, much more so than Doom 3 ever was. That's why I think it deserves much more credit than it received. Hopefully there are people out there that share the same opinion as I do; make a comment and share your thoughts yourself.
Spoiler galore ahead obviously. This video showcases the final level in the game, "The Absolution", in which the player faces off against the Mother Demon; the demon responsible of raising the dead corpses of the demons that the player fought against in Doom.
I'm using the fully upgraded Unmaker, exclusive to Doom 64 by the way, against the Mother Demon; that's why she was slain so quickly.
I recorded this footage with FRAPS while the game was emulated by the Project64 emulator.
