Damn, these final few rooms are amazing. It just throws everything at you, but at this point you have everything to throw at them too. It's like doing a bunch of slayer gates in a row.

Final boss was very boring in comparison. Fairly disappointing, but I've already heard that was the case. It's so spongey, and you're mostly just hurting for ammo and pickups while you sink damage into it. And its finisher was nowhere near as satisfying as the finish for the 2016 boss. Probably the only boss fight I disliked in this game.

I really liked this game overall. Mechanically it feels a little confining at first, but as you get the tools you need, it really works. You can pull some amazing stuff with the game once you're used to it, and it's a joy to play once it clicks.

Favorite level was probably Mars Core. It's a really good vertical slice of what makes the game good. It completely rolls with how dumb the whole Doom setting is, you're constantly showing Hayden you don't give a crap what he thinks, and it looks really cool. Combat-wise it's not as interesting as the other levels, but overall it's really good.

Least favorite levels are probably the Doom Hunter base and Taras Nabad. Both had too much environmental stuff, which made the levels feel too long.

Lore-wise I'm not too bothered with the game's story. It seems to be trying to get a similar silly tongue-in-cheek grimdark tone as warhammer 40k, and I think it works for the game. I don't like how they time skipped after the end of 2016, though. It was a great sequel setup, and then Eternal just threw away all the plot points for no apparent reason (though I'm sure there was a reason for it behind the scenes). I also think the game seemed a little too intent on telling the Doom Slayer's backstory in an unnecessary amount of detail, but I can't tell if that's the writers getting a little too indulgent or them just coming up for a reason to send you to so many varied environments (and the environment variety is great, by the way).
