Dyson Sphere Program - Disc Sphere Construction
0I'm at the endgame of Dyson Sphere Program, and I figure this is the last sphere I'll make before I stop and wait for more content.
I wanted to try making a sphere that wasn't spherical, with parts that don't block each other or the other planets in the system much. I settled on this layered ring shape with a big gap in the middle for the planets that orbit the star.
The sphere is made of ten shells: Six shells to make progressively smaller rings for the disc shape, one for the "caps" to the north and south of the star, and three to make a few fancy rings around the star itself.
At this point, the sphere is around 1/3 done. I think it's about two-thirds done on structure points (22100/310000), but it seems like it has a long way to go in terms of actually filling them in with solar sails.
It'll probably take at least another 20+ hours of construction to finish, because the factories building the materials to build this sphere don't work fast enough to build this any faster.
